Mindless Self Indulgence Concert (with innerpartysystem) in Rochester NY Review

I've been wanting to see them on tour for a while now. I missed out when they played in NYC cause everyone I knew in NJ was too lame and didn't want to go see them.
I got to catch them playing at Rochester near where I go to university. It was at this venue called Water Street Music Hall. I had heard of the place but didn't actually go to it before.
The place is pretty neat, lines were huge I felt very out of place. I was wearing a bright blue shirt, neon belt, tight jeans. In comparison, people were wearing Hot Topic bondage pants, and all these goth related clothes. My room mate had forgotten his ID. So I quickly gave him one of mine, a real one from a college in NJ with my birthdate on it. They gave him a speech on how this is not valid cause it needs to be state-issued and then let him in this once. Even though he looked barely like me.
So the show started with 3 bands before Mindless Self Indulgence. I am the dream, Dearestazazel, and innerpartysystem in that order.
I am the dream, sounds a lot better on myspace than live, and they are definetely not a dancing or moshing or anything band. They are maybe a band you would listen to in a car, their song anxiety is decent at best, but it's the only one i would consider ever listening to. They remind me of Anti-flag before they went emo and if they were more into hip-hop industrial. I mean they are ok, just not for the crowd that MSI attracts.
Dearestazazel, first what the hell at the name? Second, the lead singer really needs a warddrove and look change. Just no, and he sounds like shit live. I'm sorry but you remind me of an emo linkin park. The beat in the songs can be ok at times, but the singing and the lyrics kill it completely. The style is not good, and if you don't like them on myspace music player, think of how much they suck live.
Inner Party System, I actually had been listening to them before I went to the show. I was enjoying "Die Tonight Live Forever" and "Don't stop" a lot. I just have to say, wow at the light show they put on, and the fog effect they did was just good. Nobody I talked to had heard of them before, but they did a really good job introducing themselves. I was a bit disapointed at how they setup the vocals, since they were hard to hear at times, and the vocals actually help you get pumped up to dance. This was the first band that people actually really started moshing too which I was happy to join in. My only suggestion is that they work on songs that are more easy to dance to, similarly to the ones I mentioned above. They have a pretty good dance beat for a period of time, but then they cut it short with a long pause. They have a good formula, they just need to tweak it more for the audience they are aiming for.

I hope to see their next album a bit tweaked, but these guys definetely make it worth seeing them live. Kudos to Inner Party System for impressing me!
Sorry, went on an urban exploration trip. I will finish this.
